Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 Full Service

Rolex Sea-Dweller not winding due to worn rotor bearing. The movement is grinding to a halt and the case and bracelet are starting to look a little tired. The rivet pin on the safety clasp has failed. A bit of TLC is overdue.

The broken pin has caused the safety clasp to fail. With a watch of this value this is very important as it could fall from the wearers wrist.

The rubber seal has held up well, protecting the movement from most of the dirt and debris entering. We can however see some rubbing to the rotor and inside of the case back due to the failed bearing.

Divers watches with rotating bezels hold a lot of dirt underneath. This is a major reason for service. The dirt acts as a grinding paste and will wear not only the bezel but the case itself until it will eventually not secure properly. The case carries the watches unique serial number and is not a replaceable part.

The new bearing is fitted to cure the problem of excessive side shake as it winds.

After service, with the new mainspring fitted and the watch cleaned and properly lubricated the amplitude is over 300 degrees. All that remains is to regulate.

With the watch regulated by slightly turning the micro-stellar screws on the balance. It now keeps perfect time and has an excellent amplitude. Ready for 3-5 more years of service.
