Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAB2011 Full Service and New Winder
This wonderful 2006 Aquaracer came into us in need of service. The screw thread on the crown failed so we will also fit a genuine Tag Heuer replacement crown during the service.
The first job is to test the watch, it is losing over 700 seconds a day. A 0.5m/s beat error is very large on a modern ETA movement. This means the escapement is running off the centre line, this will cause poor time keeping and prevent the watch from self starting when it is wound. The amplitude of this movement should be over 270 degrees. An amplitude of 177 shows a watch in desperate need of service. This level of friction in the movement will increase wear on the moving parts. Time for a good clean, new genuine ETA mainspring and fresh Moebuis oils.
The case and bracelet need some attention too. The two tone finish is almost indistingushable. We will polish the case and bracelet to restore the original finish.
Once the watch is cleaned and re-oiled the test is much better. The watch runs at 0 seconds error per day. The beat error is gone, the escapement now perfectly set up on the centre line. The clean movement and new oil give us a healthy 288 degrees of amplitude on the balance wheel. This arc of vibration will happily even out any variations in power from the mainspring and give us perfect timekeeping throughout the day.
With the new crown fitted with fresh seals we can pressure test the watch to its rated depth of 3 ATM. It passes comfortably.
The watch is now keeping perfect time, certified for 300m dives, looking fresh and ready for the owners wrist. This service cost £270 and took 2 weeks. If you have a similar watch which needs attention please contact us at contact@nottinghamwatchrepair.com
