Breitling E17370 Titanium Automatic Full Service
This outstanding Breitling titanium automatic came to us requiring service. It is much loved by it’s owner and a daily wearer and as such needed maintenance.
The watch arrived in non running condition. the stem and setting lever have faults and the watch was looking a little tired in general.
The automatic movement is impeccably finished in bright rhodium, the case back seal has just begun to fail and allow some dirt and debris past. This is likely the reason the watch has stopped. Fortunately, the watch has been brought in for maintenance before any significant damage has occured from moisture ingress.
No pre service test is possible as the watch is not running so we set right to work, removing the dial and hands to replacing the setting lever spring to correct the hand setting fault.
The movement can now be serviced and regulated. The clean bearings, fresh Moebuis oils and new mainspring give good power to the escapement and allow us to regulate the watch accurately. We like to bring the balance amplitude above 270 degrees with a beat error under 0.3m/s.
At this point the correct amount of power is getting to the escapement . A good, even transfer of power evens out any slight positional errors, combined with the removal of beat error, this allows the escapement to be isochronous, meaning that any disturbances to the escapement, which slightly disrupt power delivery from the spring whilst wearing the watch will not affect timekeeping.
The watch can now be rebuilt and resealed into it’s freshly cleaned titanium case. The client declined a replacement glass but did opt for a new leather strap which really lifts the appearance.
The watch looks great, functions perfectly, is certified and waterproof and keeps time to COSC chronometer standards in all positions. The work is covered by a 12 month warranty and takes approximately 2 weeks including testing. This repair was carried out at a cost of £380
